Pompeii,Herculaneum,
and Mount Vesuvius
Journey back in time to the ancient Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, buried beneath meters of burning ash during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79A.D. Visit the smouldering crater where the peak of this imposing mountain once loomed over the coastline.
Pompei : Pompeii is one of the most significant proofs of Roman civilization and, like an open book, provides outstanding information on the art, customs, trades and everyday life of the past.
The city has re-emerged from the darkness of centuries precisely as it would have been when it was unexpectedly buried in the thick layer of ash and lava which poured down from the devastating eruption of Vesuvius
Ercolano : Herculaneum harbours a wealth of archaeological finds, from ancient advertisements and stylish mosaics to carbonised furniture and terror-struck skeletons. this Roman fishing town of 4000 inhabitants is superbly conserved .
Vesuvio : The Vesuvius is a typical example of a volcano in a volcano made by an outer broken cone, Mount Somma, with a crateric belt most of which is destroyed, where a smaller cone represented by the Vesuvius can be found. The two cones are separated by a hollow called Valle del Gigante, a part of the ancient caldera, where the Gran Cono or Vesuvius later formed, probably during the eruption of 79 AD.
